All Nippon Airways, and Tourism British Columbia participated in our comprehensive

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
Welcome
to our inaugural electronic version of your PATASCOPE. The tragic and
horrific events of September 11 have changed our lives forever and, for
the immediate future, the way we and our customers travel! The written
Chinese character for crisis also signifies opportunity. It is this opportunity
that we need to focus on and expand in our world of travel. We must encourage
the traveling public to get back on airplanes, and by doing so NOT giving
in to the demonic aims of terrorism.
Finally, we sincerely extend our heartfelt condolences to those among our PATA family, who have been personally affected by the tragedies in New York, Washington, D.C. , and Pennsylvania. God Bless America!
LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS
The Hong Kong Tourist Association is now known as the Hong Kong Tourism Board and sports a new corporate logo featuring a stylized Chinese sampan. The Los Angeles-based Regional Director of The Americas, Lily Shum, can now be contacted at ls@hktourismboard.com.
Chapter Board member Pamela Ryan of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts reports that its parent company, Canadian Pacific Hotels, has acquired control of the renowned Kea Lani Resort in Wailea, Maui, and has been renamed "The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui." Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is the largest operator of luxury hotels and resorts in North America, with a unique collection of 37 world-class and city centre hotels that enjoy unrivaled prominence in the communities where they are located (www.fairmont.com).
James Ferguson, CTC, formerly with China Southern Airlines and current Chapter Treasurer/Secretary is now with Uniworld, in Encino, as Manager Product Planning, Asia/South Pacific (www.uniworld.com).
Welcome to the new Director, Mr. Sethapon Chindanon of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), who has returned to Los Angeles for his second term.
